    Hi! I’m Dr. Shaunna Mason.

    I’m a board certified OBGYN practicing in Houston, TX for the past 12 years. I’m also a mother to 3 amazing kids. I know first hand how challenging it can be to transition into motherhood. I also see it everyday in my office with my pregnant patients navigating the anxiety of delivery and the unknowns of postpartum recovery and motherhood.

    In our current medical system, there are a lot of gaps in care and many missed opportunities for education and confidence building in both prenatal and postpartum visits. While I consider myself a natural born teacher (formerly a bossy oldest daughter), there isn’t much time during quick visits to spend the necessary time teaching and sharing my knowledge which I believe is the key to confidence building and anxiety reduction in expecting and new mothers.

    I personally struggled with postpartum depression and anxiety complicated by constant second guessing if I was doing it right? I felt mostly alone trying to understand my body’s recovery, learning my new baby and finding myself again in all the mental and emotional changes. It became a dream of mine to build a space where I could teach women all the things they want to know about their body that isn’t covered in prenatal visits and birthing classes and definitely not addressed at the one and only 6 week postpartum check. What about all the questions in between? I have sought to answer those questions and build a private membership community for women who want to learn and grow and support other new mamas on this journey of new motherhood.

    It is my belief that if mamas knew more, they would have the confidence to believe they are exactly the mother they are supposed to be for this baby. I know that postpartum anxiety and depression can look like happiness on the outside and I hope through a membership community like Mama.Knew that new mothers feel educated and supported like never before no longer endlessly searching for answers in the darkness.
